The 3-2-1 Rule of Backup
The simplest way to remember how to back up your data safely is to use the 3-2-1 rule.
3 - Keep 3 copies of any important file (a primary and two backups).
2 - Have the files on 2 different media types (such as a hard drive and tape media), to protect against different types of hazards.
1 - 1 copy should be stored offsite.

The Five Golden Rules of Backup -
1. That which has not been backed up cannot be recovered.
2. That which has not been backed up and taken offsite will not survive a fire.
3. Any backup that has not been tested with a recovery is not a backup.
4. Ignored backup systems become poorly performing backup systems.
5. Back it up or give it up.
